The beauty of homeschool classroom setup is that it combines all elements which include indoor, outdoor, garden, lab, etc. It should be designed in such a way that it is attractive enough to welcome a friendly learning environment and promoted fun times to learn and think.
Here are some tips on how to design a home classroom.
Don't worry if you can't afford a specific room. You can utilize free space between your living room and kitchen to get started. After you have a room or a dedicated space for your children, what you need to make it a classroom are:
A bookshelf or cupboard
Make sure it is low enough and safe enough so that the kids can get books by themselves and put it back by themselves. It also should be light enough so that kids can clean the dust, especially behind it. If you like to cover you shelf or cupboard, you can use curtain instead of door, which is heavy and space consuming.
A table with chairs
A round table is the best because it does not have edge. The chairs must be suitable with the table in term of height and comfort.
Chalk board or white board
Make sure they are low enough so that the kids can write on them. Provide case to keep the chalk and the markers.
Learning Materials
As much as possible, put stationary, art supplies, books, references, pictures, cards, blocks and DVDs on the shelf so that they are accessible for the kids every time they want to read, do artwork, or tidy up those. Remember, the keyword is, children friendly. Anything in our classroom must be accessible for learning and thinking process to take place.
Those are the basic things for homeschool classroom. If you can't afford to have all, a bookshelf and stationary would be sufficient. A homeschool parent should be creative enough, right?
