The Aromatic Premium Scented Candle

We have all heard the statement that a man's home is his castle. It is the woman's desire to make this castle into a home fit for her King with her being his Queen.

One of the multiple ways a woman makes a house into a home is through decorating it, spreading good smells throughout the home and the cleanliness of her home. In the older days, she spread reeds all over the floor, placed bouquets of wild flowers around the rooms and used candles to light the multiple rooms. She carried those candles in a holder so she could find her way around the rooms of her castle.

Although we no longer live in castles, we have our special home to decorate, spread good smells throughout and keep our home clean. Today we use candles for a wide variety of reasons. One of those reasons is candles are a good way to create that special feeling inside one's home.

A lit candle in the kitchen helps to get rid of cooking smells. A premium scented candle provides a nice aroma throughout a room. An aromatic candle gives off a scent that can provide either relaxation, refreshing smells, soothing feelings, a feeling of serenity or tranquility, depending on which type of candle you prefer to burn at that time. Also candles are used for decorative purposes throughout the home or the workplace. A beautiful wreath, flowers, a silver platter, etc. with a candle in the center makes a beautiful arrangement sitting on one's dining room table. Sconces with votives lit makes a welcome glow to all who enter into your home.

Candles have always been a great source of light throughout the world. Whenever the electricity goes out on a stormy night, there are candles to be lit and set throughout the room. One can carry that candle around the darken rooms as one walks to comfort a child, visit the restroom, play games with the family at the kitchen table or heating tea/coffee water on a gas stove. My family has used candles for all of these purposes. Recently my husband and I played several games of cards by candle light and I used my gas stove to make us some tea. After 2 hours, the electricity came back on and we looked at each other and said how much fun it had been without electricity. Folks, we are in our 60's and we still enjoy each other.

The premium scent of an aromatic candle helps to calm one's nerves, relaxes the mind, helps to set the mood of the evening or party and makes the home smell good. Aromatic candles do come in various sizes and shapes such as triangle Jar candles, gel candles, tumbler candles, votives, square and round pillars, to name a few.

All candle types can be purchased in a wide variety of scents, sizes, containers and colors so you will be able to match the theme in the room you are creating. Relax, enjoy your home, light some premium scented candles and make some memories.

Furniture Style - Smaller Dining Tables

How much do you keep up with the home decorating trends that are coming and going? Well if you haven't been keeping your eyes open, you may be about to decorate your dining room in a way that lets everyone know it.

When many people embark on a path to decorating a dining room, they think of massive table and chair sets. This is a pretty traditional way of thinking so you should not feel bad about it. But, if you were paying attention to this year's decorating themes, you would know that those big tables are out and you should be looking for something smaller.

One of this year's furniture fashion trends is for a minimalist impression. This means shrink down furniture pieces as much as you can. When it comes to decorating your dining room and purchasing dining tables, there is a balance that has to be met here.

Family Size

The first thing you need to think about is your family size. How many people are usually at the table for dinner. If on a regular night you have a family of four you know you need a table that can at least seat four. What about those special events? Perhaps you have many more people who need a place to sit then.

One great way to deal with this and still keep a smaller table is to choose a table that is adjustable. Most dining tables have a leaf. This can be moved when it is not needed, making it a much smaller table. When you do need it, you can expand the table. This will allow you to avoid that 'overkill' and 'oversized' feeling when there are just a few of you for dinner.

Table Width

Another thing to think of is cutting some space off of the width of the table. Often people have square or round tables that take up a lot of space because the middle space is essentially a void. Most of the people who are seated cannot reach this area. Instead perhaps you should look for a table that is not as wide, where everyone can reach all the way across it and you are also opening up some more floor space for the room.

Chairs

The next thing you should consider is the chairs that go with your dining table set. These should also be minimalized. Many dining chairs go to the point of overkill. They are large and bulky with fancy arms and take up a lot of space around the table. Instead, look for chairs that do the job at hand, give you a place to sit around the table. They don't need to do anything more.

Number of Tables

The final thing you may want to consider is how many dining tables you want to have in a room. While most people think you are just supposed to have one dining room table in place, the truth is you can have more. Instead of a long table that can seat a lot of people, you have the option to opt for a few smaller tables that will also provide enough room for everyone

Kitchen chairs typically take a beating what with a constant round of friends and family, including exuberant children and people whose weight is only exceeded by their love of your good cooking. This means that chairs in the kitchen may well start to suffer from broken or wobbly legs, or may start to gouge grooves into a floor that is not built out of some very hard material.

Repair or replacement are two options that are always available, and prevention, when you can do it in time, is a third one. If legs on kitchen chairs come loose or get cracked, then try the following before rushing out to buy a whole new chair. If the joint is loose, first break the joint apart before applying wood glue on the corresponding surfaces and putting the leg back in position. Reinforce the joint by then driving in a wood screw of a length of 1inch. By sinking the head of the screw into the wood you can then put wood putty over the head of the screw and color the putty to the appropriate shade corresponding to the chair.

For a cracked or broken leg, remove the damaged leg from the chair in question and take it to your local D. I. Y. store to see if you can get a matching replacement. If this is the case, then use the appropriate wood stain or varnish to match the color of the new leg to the rest of the chair. Glue the leg in place against the wood joints of the chair itself, using wood screws to hold the different pieces together. Drive the screws into the wood far enough so that you can then apply a little wood putty to hide the head of the screw. Finish off by using some more of the same wood stain or varnish to make the wood putty blend in with the rest of the chair.

For the chairs that are making tracks in your floor, or driving your neighbors up the wall if you live in an apartment, then you can try either sticking self-adhesive felt pads to the bottom of each leg where it meets the floor, or other methods such as tennis balls. The goal is to soften the impact of the chair being moved over the floor and to muffle the noise and vibration that this can cause. You can also cover the bottom of the legs of kitchen chairs with pincushions.

When the time comes to buying new kitchen chairs, you'll be able to take the noise and vibration factor into account. Many kitchen chairs are sold with a rubber tipped feet for this very reason. It's almost a given that kitchen floors will be made out of some hard material, as it is a rare thing to have any form of carpeting in the kitchen for obvious reasons. Chairs with rubber tipped feet will therefore be that much more quiet, stable and non-slip, which are also important, factors in such an environment.

It used to be that no matter what happened during the day, a family usually spent time together during the evening meal sitting around a dining table. It was a time to talk about your day and to listen to everyone else talk about theirs. Many times this was also used as a "family meeting" for addressing problems or concerns. Unfortunately with everyone's busy schedules and going in different directions that time is not always possible these days.

It can be hard but not impossible to get everyone together at least every once in a while for a family meal and if you have a lovely dining table in place, it is easier to do. Now, maybe you need to get a new one. Perhaps your family has grown since the last time everyone got together or you have been considering updating your kitchen or dining room. This might be a good time to discuss your plans and ideas on decorating as well as get some input from other family members.

If you do decide to remodel or update your current furnishings you will probably need to consider many things, the size of the family of course being first. Even if you do not have an exceptionally large family now, there is always the possibility that it will increase later with in-laws and grandchildren. A rectangular style dining table is always a good bet when it comes to seating a larger number of people as it provides ample elbowroom for everyone. Adding a bench type seating on one side is also a great way to add more room and still look great.

Maybe you have a smaller family and there are no immediate plans for "expansion" in the future. Then, what would be a great choice for you is a dining table that has a round or square shape that seats just a few people, like between four to six people. If there does happen to be a chance that you might need some more space for unexpected dinner guests, you can always get one with an expansion feature.

For a great way to find the perfect dining table for you and your family, the thing to do is to hit the Internet for some online shopping. It's fast because all you need is a computer to do it and it allows you to easily comparison shop through the different products and their prices. Once you do find something you like, it generally will be at a reasonable price and it will be shipped right to your home. Now that is convenient.

There is another upside to this when you get the family together to talk about decorating ideas and then once completed everyone can be proud that one way or another they had something to do with the way the room turned out. And who knows, updating your furnishings, like a dining table, may just bring everyone together a little more often once they realize what has been missing.

Benefits Of Your Round Or Small Coffee Table

When you begin to search for a small coffee or round coffee table, the first thing you need to do is determine for what you plan to use the table. You will also need to decide where you will be placing the table, the size of your home, and your budget requirements. If you're looking to fill an open space in a small room where it can still be functional, a round or small coffee table may be the best choice for your needs.

Why Do You Need Tables

For a table to be functional, it was be big enough to serve the purpose for which you need it, thus if it is to a truly functional table, it must be big enough for coffee cups, bottles or snacks for each family member. It is not likely a small or round coffee table will be large enough, so you may want to look into a rectangular table or two small square tables. Of course, this depends how many people you have in your household.

A tree trunk coffee table, or even a small coffee table may fit within the open are4a of an "L" shaped sofa, but it may also fit compactly near a wall to serve as an end table if it is small enough.

Other Benefits You Can Derive from Your Coffee Table

Besides a place to put your drink, you can benefit from your small coffee table in other ways as well. For example, you can use it to hold a lamp or use it for playing cards or other games. Because of their height, children can use a small or round coffee table as a place to eat or play games.

You can choose from many different sizes, colors, and materials for your small coffee table including wood, glass, or metal. The size is restricted only by the size of your room, with a larger coffee table best utilized in a larger room. Regardless of what material your round or small coffee table is made – steel, plastic, wood, glass – you can fit it with a drawer or shelf beneath it to hold magazines, children's games, books, and even the remote control to the television. Your round or small coffee tables also make great places to display a clock, photograph, ornament, or any number of other items. The list is endless and is restricted only by your imagination and the size of the table.

Virtually Every Garbage Disposal Clogs Up At Some Point
Garbage disposals can be a great tool in your kitchen if used properly. They make cleaning up after dinner and rinsing dishes off a breeze. But they are all somewhat prone to getting clogged if some basic guidelines aren't followed.

The Best Garbage Disposal

People often wonder what is the best garbage disposal to get to avoid these problems. Without going into a full blown garbage disposal review, a good plan is to choose a model with the highest horsepower rating your budget allows. And make sure the model you select has a way to manually turn the shaft if it gets stopped up.

It Makes A Difference How You Use It

No matter what kind of garbage disposal you have, how you use it has more to do with how well it works than what brand or model it is. Even the best garbage disposal clogs up sometimes, especially if it gets a lot of heavy use.

Remember To Always Turn The Faucet On First

So how should you use your garbage disposal? The first rule is to always turn the faucet on when you are using a garbage disposal and let it run for several seconds after you turn the disposal off. Remember, everything that you put in the garbage disposal goes right into your plumbing system so it takes a little water to wash it down the pipes.

Take It Easy

Another tip is that it is not a good idea to try to put too many large pieces of food through the disposal. I've seen garbage disposal clogs caused by someone trying to grind big pieces of carrots. All of the drain piping under the sink was full of grated carrot.

Asking For Problems

It is certainly tempting to just dump everything into the big hole in the sink and flip the switch, but that is asking for trouble. I actually know of one situation where a guy was dropping eggshells down his disposal. He must have eaten a lot of eggs because the crushed up shells coated the inside of his kitchen drain pipe and finally stopped it up entirely. The entire drain pipe wound up having to be replaced.

Put The Big Chunks Somewhere Else

Hopefully that story shows how important it is to be careful how you use your garbage disposal. Put bigger scraps and trimmings in either the trash or a compost pile and use the disposal for the small stuff that would otherwise get rinsed down the drain. Your drain pipes will be better for it.

Garbage Disposal Clogs

Sometimes even if you have followed all of these guidelines the garbage disposal clogs up anyway. No problem, it's pretty simple to learn how to unclog a garbage disposal. There are just a couple of basic steps to follow.

Does The Motor Need To Be Reset?

First, find out if the motor is jammed. If you flip the switch and the disposal just hums, it is most likely locked up. If the power stays on to the disposal this usually results in the motor cutting off, so lots of garbage disposals have a reset button (usually on the bottom). Turn the switch off, wait a few seconds and push the reset button.

Find For The Wrench Hole

The next step is to unjam the disposal. Most garbage disposals have an opening in the bottom that allows you to insert an "Allen Wrench" into the bottom of the shaft and manually turn the shaft to free it up. Sometimes the wrench is included with the disposal. If not a standard "Allen" wrench will get the job done.

How To Unclog A Garbage Disposal With A Wrench

Make sure the power switch is off before going to the next step! If you're not sure, or if you have an air switch, turn off the breaker serving the disposal. Turn the faucet on and stick the wrench into the bottom of the shaft. The opening for this should be in the middle of the bottom of the garbage disposal. Now turn the wrench back and forth a couple of times until you can turn the wrench all the way around freely.

The Broomstick Method

If your disposal has no hole for a wrench at the bottom you can always try using a broomstick. Take about a 2 foot long piece of broom stick, stick it in the top of the disposal and pretend you are stirring a big pot of stew while bearing down on the stick. While not nearly as effective as the wrench method, on some models it's your only choice.

I Thought I Left My Rings On The Counter

Once you've got the shaft turning, turn the switch back on. The disposal should drain now. If not, or if you weren't able to get the shaft unstuck, there may be something (hopefully not an expensive ring) causing the jam. Making sure the switch is off, look down inside the disposal. It will probably help to use a flashlight. If you can see anything inside, try to get it out with a pair of needle nose pliers.

The Last Option

If you can tell there is something inside but it won't come out with the pliers it may require removing the disposal. If the shaft won't turn at all, then the next step is learning how to unclog a garbage disposal.

Removing A Garbage Disposal

The key to removing a garbage disposal is to not get in too big a hurry. The drain connection usually attaches to the disposal with a clamp that just needs to be unfastened, so take this apart first. If the sink bowl is backed up and full of water make sure you have a bowl ready to catch the water.

Disconnect The Garbage Disposal From The Sink

Once the drain is disconnected remove the mounting assembly that connects the disposal to the sink. This will be either a big nut, a bracket held in place with screws or, on Insinkerator disposals, a clamp ring that twists down. Once you have this loose you should be able to remove the disposal from the sink, take the rubber splash shield off and peek inside.

Remove The Foreign Object And Reassemble Everything

Now you can get whatever is jamming the blades out and then, before you put everything back together, turn the switch on for a minute and make sure the blade spins now. If it spins freely now, put it all back together. Be careful and get all of the gaskets back where they go and then test everything for leaks. Try the switch a few times to make sure it works and put everything back in the cabinet.

That's How Easy It Is To Unclog A Garbage Disposal

You now know how to unclog a garbage disposal. If your garbage disposal is working fine right now you may be thinking "so what?". The odds are that sometime you will need this information. When the day comes to fix your garbage disposal, review this article and it will be a piece of cake.

You can find round tables that are made of teak, oak, pine, maple, aluminum, plastic, bamboo, iron, wrought iron, steel, glass, and more.

What Next?

Decide on the right design.

Looking for simplicity? Then you want a table that does not take the focus off of the other furnishings. You want a table with minimal detail and design. A simple structure and a calm color would be an excellent choice.

If you desire the opposite, a table that is the focal point of the room, then you want a round coffee table that matches the other furniture but has intricate design detail and structure.

You can always accentuate a beautiful round table with the addition of end tables, stools, and lamps that match the table. This will give the room a very strong unified feel and create an awesome flow throughout your home.

Adding Accessories

Want to spruce up an existing round table or add some additional aesthetic treats to a new one? Simply add some interesting or beautiful accessories.

Some accessories for your new or old round coffee table would be some well designed books (such as photography books), flowers, magazines, artistic drink coasters, plants, and candles.

These additions to your round coffee table are great conversation starters and add beauty, elegance, and sophistication to your living spaces.

When looking to redecorate your kitchen you first have to decide want kind of kitchen decorating style you should go for. Certainly the choices that are now available will leave you baffled and bewildered but by remembering a few things about the kitchen the choice you make will be the right one for you. After the bathroom the kitchen is the most important room in any house and it should also be remembered that after the entrance hall to your home the kitchen has the most foot traffic occurring in it.

Below are provided a number of the more popular styles of kitchen that can be considered if you happen to be planning a remodeling or revamping of your current kitchen. It is also an idea to carry out some research as well by looking in house and home magazines, visiting kitchen showrooms, DIY stores, Kitchen Websites or even looking at your family and friends homes to see if they have a style that you like.

1. Country Style - Often called Early American or Colonial as it is designed to create a lovely quaint farm style kitchen. Often such kitchens will feature open shelves, pot racks and have the feeling of it being well lived in. Such kitchens are usually accented by the various colour schemes relating to the actual cabinetry of the units.

2. Contemporary - More and more often this style is being used because of its clean and simple lines. Often the cabinets are quite futuristic looking have no carvings or ornate features on them. With this style of kitchen the emphasis is put more on style and practical sophistication rather than beauty and that warm lived in feel.

3. Shaker - A simple and utilitarian style of kitchen that has flat panel doors, wooden countertops and brass handles (hardware).

4. French Country - Such kitchen designs based on this style are warm and inviting with lots of wood and soft colours being used. Not only do natural materials feature heavily in this style of kitchen, but you will find that the furniture used is large and rather ornate.

5. Arts and Crafts - Yet again another style of kitchen decoration which is becoming more popular because of the use of feature glass doors and natural wood tones which are finished off in a matt sheen effect. Certainly with this style of kitchen decoration there is the chance for you to be a little bit more artistic and creative in the design.

However, it is important when choosing a theme for you kitchen that you look at the designs and styles of the other rooms in your home to ensure that it fits in with the overall scheme of your home.

Emerald Rose -- Dance of the Rats

Hey there, folks! Terrific band here, with a terrific song. When I first heard these folks on the radio, I could've sworn it was a Jethro Tull song I'd forgotten about. Well, it wasn't, Emerald Rose is just that good! It comes from their album Archives of Ages to Come. --Lyrics-- I awoke one night with nature's call Out of the bedroom and into the hall Looked in the kitchen, still half asleep My gut clenched in terror, icy and deep Twenty some rats were out on the floor Four on the table, and two by the door I stared in shock while they struck up the band Formed into lines at their caller's command Chorus: Round and round, the rats they danced On tiny feet they leapt and pranced With rodent grace and vermin skill The dance of the rats -- what a thrill! They wore little hats and wee little shoes Greatcoats and dresses of green and blue They waltzed and tangoed and polkaed with glee Lost in their revels, they quite ignored me Up on the table were musicians four With soul and with skill they commanded the floor With tiny guitars and a fiddle so small It could only be played at a Rodentia ball Chorus I woke with a start, heard no music was playing Ran to my kitchen, a-gasping and praying No rats there to greet me, but amongst all the clutter Was a tiny glass slipper right next to the butter... Chorus

Folding Tables For the Patio

If you thought that folding tables are used only in functions and outdoor events, then you are wrong. Nowadays, folding tables and chairs are a common part of outdoor furniture for the patio. It is the ease of usage which makes them ideal for outdoor furniture use. You can fold it easily when you are not using them and that will free up your patio space. They are light weight, portable and easy to store as well. A few years ago, only a few designs were available in folding tables and chairs. These chairs have a cast iron body which is powder coated for comfort. These are extremely simple looking and people are skeptical about buying them because they do not match with other quality wooden furniture. However, now there are extremely aesthetic designs in folding tables as well. You can choose from tables made of wood, metal or plastic and easily find one that matches the outdoor decor.

Types of tables

The folding picnic table that you choose can be round, oval, octagon, rectangular or even custom shaped according to your needs and requirements. The round wooden table design which has a Texan western feel to it has legs that pivot in and out on a hinge. This enables both sides of the table to fall down so that you can tuck it away when you do not wish to use it. It even has provisions to accommodate an umbrella in the center. Another extremely popular folding picnic table is the one made of a synthetic resin. It resembles metal in many ways and can almost pass off for cast metal. It is easy to store, is scratch proof and rust proof as well. This makes it extremely easy to clean and carry. The folding mechanism may vary from one model to the other. Some folding tables are also made of white granite mold which is extremely pleasing to the eye. However, these can be heavier than some of the other models.

Choosing a folding table

While choosing a folding table, ensure that you keep an eye on the construction of the folding table legs and the hinges. These will be subject to extreme wear and tear and only quality materials and construction can withstand long term use. The legs of a quality folding table will be attached right through the body of the table with bolts rather than screws. Legs that are screwed will eventually detach with time. The ideal top for any folding table is high resistance polyurethane. But you can opt for wood or other materials as well as long as they do not have a seaming edge. The safety lock is another important component of the folding table. The automatic locking mechanism is a better option than the manual one. Lastly, some manufacturers offer a warranty on lifetime folding tables while others only offer a warranty of a year or two at the most. When you have a longer warranty period, you can be rest assured about the quality of the product.

Online stores

Buying folding tables and chairs at an online store is a much better option than at an off-line one. Unlike off-line stores, an online dealer will bring together the best of several manufacturers. So you will have much more items to choose from and you can easily compare amongst different models and their features. Also the prices for folding tables are generally lower in online stores as compared to the off-line world. So if you do the right amount of research, not only can you find a table and chair set that matches the rest of the furniture, you can find it at a great price too.

Hello and thank you for your visit. What I have written here in part reflects some of my various thoughts and concepts about life, family, friends, God, etc. As a child growing up in a large family we had it pretty good during the warm seasons of the year, but wintertime was another story. Wintertime was cold and at times very hard; a time we couldn't wait to get through. Mom and Dad would scrap together food to feed us from what had been canned, stored or donated. They made sure we stayed warm usually by firewood gathered earlier or coal we were able to purchase. Somehow the family all pulled together and did what was needed to get by. Wintertime was also a good time. A time that we seemed to huddle a little closer together as a family and a time we appreciated things a little more. Wintertime makes me think of the beauty of falling snow, blanketing the ground; what a sight, covering the dirt and brown grass! Snow covering the earth reminds me of how Gods love covers the world and cleanses it making it a beautiful. Wintertime reminds me of the smell of wood burning or momma cooking in the kitchen; the smell of coffee filling the air or dads aftershave. I remember the feeling of waking up nearly frozen to death, how from under the covers seeing my breath vanishing before me. I remember us kids running as fast as we could to huddle around the stove in the living room while we waited for breakfast. Many of the poems or thoughts came to me as I sat alone and thoughts of family and friends came to mind. For just a brief while you can go back and relive the good times, the fun times and the sad times. I thank God that we are able to record our thoughts to remind us in the future, of the blessings of the past. Wintertime Memories is one of those poems where I allowed myself to go back and relive my childhood days once more. I do hope you enjoy, Loyd Taylor Wintertime Memories Snowflakes a-fallin, in the kitchen Moms callin; You youngens get out of that bed! The days now a-wastin, the biscuits a-bakin And I got lots to do ere yere fed. Son, help your brother straighten up those covers You never know wholl drop by today; Go wash up with the others, gather round the table, Hold hands, and now let us pray: Lord, for the nights rest were grateful For this food and our great big family; Now bless whats before us, In the name of Jesus, Alright, now yall can eat. When yall are through eatin The chickens need feedin And theres firewood that needs bringin in. Now go feed your dog, Give the scraps to the hogs And bring back an arm load of kindlin. Its seems just yesterday we sat at that table Mom and Dad and the whole family; I never knew then Just how precious to me Would those Wintertime memories be. No, we never were rich in material things And at times we barely got by; But we had love to spare for all of us there And for any stranger that dropped by. They say you can't go back to the days gone by, I'm sorry, but I must disagree For I often do return and again live In those days of Wintertime Memories. Written by Loyd Taylor, December,2004

My father was raised during the Great Depression, becoming an orphan in his pre teens. His oldest sibling took over the family to keep them all together. Scarcity of food affected his personality so strongly that he later insisted that my family live on a farm and learn how to supply our own table. For years he had a problem of over eating, until he finally convinced himself he was not going to starve.

One of the stories he brought with him combined hunger with cleverness, the tale of "Nail Soup". I later learned that the story dates back centuries in Scandinavia, Poland, and other Northern European countries. We do know that the story originated after the invention of iron tools... unless it was previously known as "stone soup" as has been suggested.

Today, some folklorists say the story teaches cooperation across skill sets. I think the simplest explanation fits best, namely, how to harness greed to the benefit of both sides.

We can tweak the tale a bit to make a guide for dietary self interest. But the story was born long before anyone knew about vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber, or other nutritional concepts. Most likely our ancestors thought in terms of filling the belly, and what we now call calories. It went something like this.

One day our hero (vagabond, itinerant peddler, beggar, tramp, disbanded soldier, pilgrim, et cetera), who was footsore and very hungry, came upon a (small village, cabin in the woods, camp-ground, monastery, et cetera). The person[s] he saw there told him he/she/they were sorry but there was not a bit of food to share, times being desperate as they were. Hero said "not to worry, I'd just like to borrow a pot and some water, a spoon, a place on your fire, and I'll make nail soup." Well this did arouse a bit of curiosity, so the pot of water was provided. Hero then pulled an iron nail out of his pocket, held it close to his face, then mumbled some barely heard words. That done, he put the nail in the pot, and proceeded to wait for it to boil.

To short cut about thirty minutes of story telling, Hero satisfied questions by saying that, indeed, the soup would be a bit better if provided a pinch of salt, some wilted vegetables, an onion, a marrow bone, some left over barley, some old bread, and so forth, carefully stirring the pot and tasting the broth after each addition. Eventually Hero declared that, to show his thanks for the use of the pot, he would gladly share the soup if person[s] had bowl[s] handy. He then served out the soup, being careful to palm the nail and make it vanish back into his pocket.

Now that we do know something about nutrition, we could round out the recipe by including some potatoes, carrots, green vegetables, some lean ground beef or chunks of soy bean curd, perhaps some spices. Depending on the needs of those eating, we could allow some oil or other fats to raise the caloric content, but no sugar.

My "Easy Health Diet" gives more detail on how to build healthful recipes and to upgrade existing ones.

One final note: when you have eaten enough, stop.

Patio Tables For All Occasions

If you love organizing spur of the moment picnics in your patio, then you need to have a set of furniture that allows you to relax and enhances the functionality of the patio at the same time. While it is easy to choose from reclining furniture and chaise lounges, it is difficult to choose from tables. There are tables for all occasions. You can choose from center tables, side tables, and dinner tables. The tables can be round, oval, octagonal or just about any shape or size that you want. When you choose a table for the patio, ensure that you choose one that matches the overall décor of the patio and even matches the size requirements. For example, you would not want to purchase a central dinner table that eats up half of the space on the patio.

Dining Tables

Dining tables are what makes that perfect family dinner possible in your patio. You need to keep several factors in mind when you choose one. The first and the most important factor is the number of people that the table can accommodate. If there are four to five members in your family, then choose a table that can accommodate 7 or eight people. You should always consider a few extra people for that picnic. Square shaped dining tables were common earlier but now, most people opt for an octagonal outdoor dining table. The reason behind this is that it allows you to maximize every inch of space. People will not bump into one another when they eat and the chairs can be spaced well. Dining tables made of wood are ideal for any setting but you can also choose one made of a cast iron frame and a glass top. Place it by the pool and it looks marvelous under patio lights.

Folding tables

If you want portability then folding tables are the best choice. Once again these come in hundreds of shapes, sizes, designs and colors. But one thing that is common across all of them is their light weight and the ease of carrying them from one place to the other. You can take it with you to the beach or even move it around to different parts of the garden. When you choose a folding picnic table, choose one that fits your budget. Plastic, wood and metal are the most common materials that are used to make folding tables.

Picnic Tables

When it comes to picnic tables, most people prefer to compromise on the look and opt for added functionality. It needs to be durable, portable and easy to store as well. This is one of the reasons why most picnic tables are made of extremely durable light cast metal alloy. Most picnic tables are folding tables and they can be folded and stored away when they are not in use. There are different varieties of the folding table. One thing that you want to consider though is that the table needs to be scratch proof as well. When you are going for a picnic, scratches on the table are the last thing that you need to be worried about.

Side tables

Side tables are the perfect addition to your recliner chair or your Adirondack rocking chair. When you recline, you can keep your things on the side table. Side tables are usually small and made to accommodate a few things only at a time. So you can rest your radio, a glass of juice or a book at the most. But small as they are, side tables can be extremely attractive. An oval cherry side table looks absolutely stunning along with other wooden furniture.

Two Legs - Stay Drunk

LYRICS: Beer and kisses Round the kitchen table I hear this is Too unstable When you're sober You're done with men And it's all over Till you're drunk again Then stay drunk If that's what it takes I'd rather be one Of your better mistakes Flowers despair And cheap alcohol Did you change your hair I haven't changed at all I know the figure in your carpet I know your figure in the sheets I figure I'm discarded And history repeats This game Again and again I got no shame When we mix love with gin There's a curtain in your room I ain't seen before Should I assume There's a few new things more But it's the same jug of wine The same cigarettes A new opening line But the same tired regrets The same But I lose my place I call your name You slap my face

One of the joys of having grandchildren is actually getting to spend quality time with them. What a better way to connect and create lasting memories than to take them with you on a vacation! But who said that holidays with kids can't be fun for the adults too? Find a destination that has balance of interactive activities with the grandkids, as well some opportunities for a little downtime for yourself, and you'll have a great time with the kids and return from your trip rested and ready to do again!

The first two destinations we recommend are in Florida. Florida has always been known as a great place to take children. The weather is fantastic, and there many great attractions for young and old alike. For example, at the Animal Kingdom Lodge in Orlando, you'll relax in one of the TWO spas and your grandchildren can play at "Uzima," the massive pool complete with an impressive 67-foot waterslide. The rooms at the Lodge are African inspired, family friendly, and disability accessible rooms are available upon request. If you decide to upgrade to the concierge level, one of the perks is the early morning "Kilimanjaro" safari that is only available to Lodge guests staying on concierge floor. ALL Lodge guests get to tour the wildlife reserve at Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park in a private guided session. Treat yourself to a "grown-up" dinner at one of the resort's restaurants while the kids (ages 4-12) enjoy a night at Simba's Clubhouse. They can play games, watch movies, and have dinner under the watchful supervision of the hotel staff. This resort also prides itself on its arcade room, massage, fitness center, and 24-hour playground!

Another perfect Florida escape can be found at Orlando's Nickelodeon Family Suites by Holiday Inn. This resort can get quite crowded during peak season which is during the summer months. If you'd like to avoid the crowds, try visiting during the fall and spring off-peak season. The wintertime can be a little cool for swimming, but it is a great time to visit the area theme parks and attractions. The Nickelodeon Hotel has one, two, and three bedroom family friendly suites complete with a full kitchen or kitchenette. They are decorated in fun colors and the kid's rooms have murals with their favorite Nickelodeon characters. The kitchen is an added benefit as eating out every day can get expensive. Kids will have tons to do with the kids' spa, two pools with water slides, arcade, and mini golf course just to name a few. The "Nick After Dark" program hosts plenty of supervised activities nightly. Another great amenity is the shuttle service that will take you to ANY of Orlando's theme parks, just be sure to make advance reservations.

On the Pacific coast you can find Hotel Del Coronado in beautiful San Diego, California. Rooms at the "Hotel Del" are in three buildings, the Victorian, Ocean Tower, and Cabana Building. Guest rooms and suites are extremely elegant and some have limited and full views of the Pacific. The Tent City Kids' Programs run through the summer. One hour craft sessions take place in the late morning and mid afternoon and run $15 per child per session. Two camps are offered each day to keep kids entertained, and there are a variety of themes like Under the Sea, Pirates of the Coronado, and Knights of the Round Table. You can extend your grandchild's stay by signing them up for "a night out". The three hour camp will run about $45 and with the extension, $65. Kayak tours, surf lessons, and beach bonfires are some of the family friendly activities hosted by the Hotel Del staff. For the adults, make an appointment at the well known salon and spa, reserve a tee time at the resort's golf course, or try one of the many high quality restaurants. Sea World and San Diego Zoo are great day trip options. The hotel offers it guests packages to both.

Our top choices for a Caribbean holiday are either of the two FDR resorts in Jamaica, FDR Pebbles in and Franklyn D. Resort. These are 2 all-inclusive resorts that cater to guests traveling with children. Complete with your own Vacation Nanny included in the price, they both offer a multitude of activities for children of all ages. The beaches at the resort are absolutely gorgeous, and some of the one, two and three bedroom suites are ocean front. There is snorkeling, kayaking, and many other family friendly activities for you to choose from. The resort offers day trips to Ocho Rios, Dunn's River Falls, and horseback riding. These are reasonably priced and a spectacular choice if you feel like getting off the resort property. We can't say enough about the Vacation Nanny! These women will befriend your grandchildren and take them to activities as much or as little as you like. They'll watch them by the pool, get them lunch, and make sure they're clean and tucked into bed at the right time. While the kids are off doing fun crafts or going to the beach, schedule a massage or manicure at the spa, lay out by the pool, or just relax on the hammock outside your room. The opportunities are endless! You and your grandkids just won't want to come home!

When taking a vacation, pack up the kids and bring them along! These resorts are completely family friendly and will be fun for your grandkids...AND YOU! Spend the quality time with them you crave, while not completely giving up your relaxing vacation.

Home Decorating Ideas For A Small Dining Room

A spacious dining room was considered a necessity in older homes. However, today our homes seem to be more compact and the emphasis has moved toward allotting more space for the family room as well as other activity specific areas. The amount of space devoted entirely to eating is shrinking. Meet the challenge of making sure that your eating space is functional and attractive no matter what size it is which will in turn keep your family happy and healthy.

Evaluate where you eat now and see if there are ways to improve it. Is the seating comfortable? Does the table fit the area and is it the right type of table for your needs? Space-saving tables include drop-leaf tables that fold down when not in use. You may be able to get by with a smaller table if you have a nearby surface from which to serve food. Round tables will generally provide room for more people in less space than other shaped tables.

A slim table in a living room may offer an ideal place for a meal. A comfortable settee for two people which is part of the regular seating of the room can be used for seating as well as a couple of living room chairs pulled up to the other side of the table. You instantly have a dining place for four people that is attractive and functional.

When shopping for a dining table, consider the shape of the table. Square and round tables are more equal in width and length. Rectangular tables are longer in length than width. Round and square tables fit most anywhere. Rectangular tables fit very nicely against a wall which allows for better "traffic flow" in the area.

Dress up the dining room table with pretty table linens. If you own a beautiful table, then show it off! If your dining table is unattractive, cover it with a beautiful damask or linen tablecloth and no one will know how it looks underneath.

When you entertain guests, remember that 90% of the success of a meal lies in its presentation. Keep that in mind when selecting the table linens, napkins, plates, flatware, and serving dishes as well as the favorite food dishes you are going to serve.

Formal table setting are always appropriate but not necessary. You can set an eye-catching table and still stay within your budget. One decorating idea is to collect glasses in one color theme combining antique styles with modern styles to unify the look. They will look great in a dining room of any size.

Planning a Vegetable Garden

It is important when you start to plan a garden, to know what you want the garden to do.
For instance, if you are hoping to feed a family of four all year round, you will need to plan a garden that is approximately 100 square meters of space (not including
walking paths) that produces more than once. If you live in a cold climate, you will not be able to grow year round. So asking yourself a few basic questions is a good way to start.

Where do you Live?

Climate can be broken down into three basic categories when planning a garden. Cold, temperate and tropical/sub-tropical.
Of course there are many shades of climate in these categories and only you can determine exactly how where you live, fits into the mix.

What will grow Where?

Different plants have different requirements so take that into consideration when doing your vegetable garden planning.

Plants like beans, broccoli, Brussel Sprouts, cauliflower, turnips, onions and peas grow best at temperatures between 10-20C. These plants prefer a cooler time of the year to grow
and will usually tolerate frost.

Vegetables like cabbage, carrots, radish, parsnip, leek, lettuce and celery have intermediate temperature requirements. They will grow best in temperatures between 15-25C and they can be fussy. Grow them out of season and they may run to seed without producing anything for your
kitchen table.

Warm season vegetables grow best in temperatures above 20C and will die if exposed to frost. These include corn, capsicum, potato, tomato, eggplant and beans and all the vine crops. So
make sure the majority of their growing season is in the warmer months.

To help with your planning, I've developed a range of sowing guides (www.no-dig-vegetablegarden.com/sowing-guides.html).
The guides indicate which months are the best for sowing popular vegetables and how many weeks growing you
have before harvest.

A few other considerations...

Protect your plants from harsh winds. Cold winds will stunt growth, hot winds will dry the soil and harm the plants, strong winds will make them break. If you don't have a natural sunny
protected corner in your garden, prepare a windbreak of garden lattice or slatted timber.

Make sure your vegetable garden gets plenty of sunshine...at least 5 hours a day of direct sunlight.

Make sure your taller plants don't block the sunlight for the smaller plants. Consider planting your garden rows in a north to south aspect so all rows receive equal amounts of sun during the day.

If you are planning to plant successive crops, rotate where you plant what. Different plants take different things out of the garden soil. This will also reduce the potential for a particular type of pest or disease to take hold in your garden. Keep replenishing your compost and mulch!

Water, water, water, water, water! Vegetables need water to grow and lots of it. A drip water system is best to give the plants a good, deep soaking and to discourage leaf fungus. This will encourage root growth. Do NOT let your garden bed dry out. Your no dig garden will have good drainage anyway, so keep it wet and top it up with mulch to keep the moisture in.

Vegetable plants should grow quickly to produce well. Water, sunshine and fertilizer all have a role. If your plants aren't sprinting ahead, then they are lacking something and your results will be disappointing. Find out what it is and fix it.

By following these simple vegetable gardening tips, your no dig garden will be off to a flying start. Spend some time to work out what you will grow over the growing season that you have available to you. Then back time the weeks you will need to grow your seedling before planting.

If you were to randomly ask ten people what a "hutch" is, they would almost answer universally that it is a big wooden cabinet that sits in a dining room with dishes in it. Little if any thought would be given to the possibility that it could be a big wooden cabinet that sits in a kitchen. The funny thing is that the average kitchen is full of big furniture items. The stove, refrigerator, freezer, kitchen table and in some instances even the washer and dryer are all in the kitchen. The problem is that other than the kitchen table and chairs, most people don't envision a big piece of wood furniture in a kitchen.

Utilitarian in purpose, what better place than the kitchen for a cabinet that displays dishes and glasses, holds silverware, linens, special use utensils and cooking gadgets? Wood always lends warmth to kitchen décor and nothing could be warmer than a stately wooden hutch lining a wall in a kitchen.

There are a variety of hutch styles that would complement almost any kitchen design. From modern and contemporary to traditional or even antique finishes, the possibilities are endless. Furniture is an expression of you; a signature of sorts and it should always complement rather than detract. Obviously a huge ostentatious wooden cabinet carelessly stationed in the middle of the floor would be more of an eyesore than an accent, however, a smaller well-crafted cabinet scaled to fit the room can add just the right touch to an otherwise ordinary room.

Like bookcases, hutches come in open and closed-in styles. Before making your purchase, consider what you will use it for. If you are a collector of knickknacks or other collectibles the open style is more suitable as a display venue. Cookbook collections, small vintage utensils and photographs could find cozy homes in one of the closed-in models. They can be as ornate or as simplistic as your lifestyle. An antique one makes a great topic for folkloric stories about its origin and previous owners. It can become home to a lonely plant or a stand for a small television or kitchen stereo system.

The best thing about them is that they do not have to match anything. The front does not compete with the aluminum or porcelain veneers of the appliances. The door or drawer pulls can as simple as round knob or as exquisite as an ornately decorated brass ring.

When you really start looking about and see the variety out there, you may think there are too many choices for you to make a decision and stick to it. Don't worry; the furniture will speak to you. Keep looking around; note all the benefits or cons of each piece of each of the hutches you look at and you will eventually know which one should come to your home.

Other than taking placement measurements, not a great deal of thought needs to go into deciding what to look for in a hutch. More likely than not you will find just the right one and make it a part of your kitchen décor.

Finding the Perfect Dining Table

Dinner is one of the only times that a family gets to spend together these days. With parents off at work and children always away with friends, it sometimes seems like there's never a moment for quality family time. That's why when the entire crew comes together, it's important that they gather around a dining table that suits everyone's needs. There are a number of characteristics that make your dining table yours, including aesthetics, structure, and material composition. All of these come together to make the perfect place for your family to lay their plates. You'll likely keep this piece of furniture longer than every other, so take the time to pick a table that will last.

Like most other furniture purchases, the easiest way to narrow down your list of options is by size. How many people do you have in your family, and how often do you all eat together. Luckily, there's a handy solution if that number varies from day to day. Perhaps your children have moved out of the house, and only come in once a week for Sunday dinner. In this case, during the workweek, you can have a small table that won't take up much room in the kitchen, leaving valuable space for cooking. For that one special night, however, you can turn that small table into an option capable of providing your entire family with a place to eat. It's not magic. Instead, you'll be making use of your table's leaves. Simply pull the table apart, and a space will appear. Insert the leaves, and suddenly you have a larger table capable of seating more hungry people.

Now that you've got size figured out, it's time to decide what form you like most. Though rectangular dining tables are by far the most popular, you may prefer a circular design. Owners of this kind of table swear by the ease of maintaining a conversation between large groups. If you're buying a large table, however, the purpose will probably be defeated. You can, however, save the day by purchasing a round table that can handle the addition of eaves to create a "racetrack" shape.

Once you've got size and form down, it's time to move on to style. Fit the dining table to the room it will be placed in. Are the other furnishings contemporary or traditional? An antique wood dining table will look silly in a kitchen devoted to more modern taste. Almost all traditional tables are made of wood, while contemporary tables can utilize glass or even metal. Put some time into thinking about what the table will be used for. If you envision your young children scraping the surface with a butter knife, glass might be the best way to go. You can always refinish a wooden table, but this process is quite expensive.

Choose the table that best represents your family. If you keep that fact in mind, you're sure to walk out of the store with a dining table that will last generations.

Round shapes add instant softness to your décor. Pillows, chairs, coffee tables, area rugs and footstools come in round shapes and can be easily added to the more angular lines of modern decorating as well as any other décor you fancy.

Lights & Lamps: A central light in each room as an appropriately decorative round chandelier creates a softer look, especially if the lights are made to dim at different settings. Rounded lamps give geometrical diversity to square end tables and look just as good sitting on rounded tables.

Coffee Tables: Coffee tables come in a wide range of sizes and shapes. You can choose from cane, wood or metal frames that twist and turn in interesting ways. Spools, spindles, elaborate curves in wood or metal... There truly is no end to what can be done to "round" to bring it into modern design. Glass for coffee table tops can be clear or tinted. Commissioning someone to tint a tabletop for you is a great idea if you wish to match the tint to the colors in your décor.

Mirrors: A large, rounded mirror placed in a strategic place adds a round reflection and softens the room's appearance with a great success. Place a rounded mirror opposite a large window with a fantastic view to bring the beautiful outdoors into your home.

Area Rugs: Round area rugs are another good way to soften the look of your home. A large round rug as an "island" for your furniture is great for adding softness in one big sweep. You might scatter a few smaller rugs in traffic areas or another large one in the center of a spacey kitchen. You can buy round area rugs in your choice of several types of materials, patterns and colors.

Footstools: Rounded footstools and chairs soften instantly, especially when the colors are kept warm and light. Round throw pillows tossed on couches and chairs have the same effect. Choose from several design prints and textures to further customize them to your design theme.

Other Tips for Rounding Out Your Design Soften angular frames with fabric decorated in round prints. Create a round backdrop for pictures on your wall. With careful measuring, tracing and painting, a circle painted in a lighter color than the rest of the wall and then filled with hanging pictures is a great way to get creative and soften at the same time. You might choose to have a mural painted in your circle or fill it with round frames.
